This Creamy French Onion Ground Beef and Egg Noodles Casserole is an easy weeknight meal that comes together in the skillet in about 30 minutes! Flavorful ground beef, tender egg noodles with a creamy sauce and cheesy topping– a family favorite! I have cooked this recipe a number of times for my own family.

This recipe was inspired by my families absolute favorite recipe, ground beef and egg noodles..but the French Onion Soup gives it a flavorful twist.

Ingredients in Creamy French Onion Skillet
- Ground Beef: I use our own French Creek Dry-Aged Beef.
- Egg Noodles: any brand will do. I use about 3/4 of a 12 oz bag (10 oz). You could also make your own egg noodles
- French Onion Soup: 10.5 oz can of French Onion Soup
- Cream Cheese: full fat or low fat
- Onion and Garlic Powder
- Shredded Swiss and Cheddar Cheese

Substitutions and Variations
- Replace cream cheese with sour cream if you prefer the tangy flavor of that.
- add vegetables such as corn, chopped spinach, mushrooms, fresh chopped onions
- top casserole with french fried onions for a crunchy twist

How to Make French Onion Ground Beef and Egg Noodles

- Prep Beef and Noodles
Brown ground beef on medium high heat in large skillet and then drain excess fat. While browning ground beef, boil noodles per package instructions.
- Make Creamy Sauce
Once ground beef is browned, add the French Onion Soup, cubed cream cheese, seasonings. Stir until melted and welll combined. If really thick, add a splash of milk or cream to thin out.
- Add noodles and cheese
Once noodles are boiled, add to the creamy meat mixture and combine well. Then top with cheese. I add the cover on the skillet for a minute or two to melt the cheese quickly. Enjoy!

You could assemble the casserole and pour into a baking dish to warm up later in the oven. Just prepare as instructed, pour into dish, let cool. Top with cheese and bake at 350 F until warmed through.

Before Cooking: assemble, cover tightly, freeze up to 3 months.
After Cooking: store in freezer safe containers. Simply thaw and warm portions up in microwave.
Warm up a single serving in the microwave just until warmed. Add a splash of broth or milk if it seems dry.
Egg noodles give it the best comfort food texture, but penne, shells or rotini would also work well. Just cook until al dente.

Creamy French Onion Ground Beef and Egg Noodles
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 10 oz egg noodles
- 10.5 oz can french onion soup
- 6-8 oz cream cheese or 3/4-1 cup sour cream
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tbsp minced garlic
- 2-3 tbsp milk or cream to thin out, if needed
- 3/4 cup shredded swiss cheese
- 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
Instructions
- In a large skillet, brown ground beef on medium high heat. While browning, prepare pot of water and boil egg noodles per package instructions.
- Once the beef is cooked through, drain off any excess grease if necessary then add the onion and garlic powder. Next add the french onion soup and cubed cream cheese. Let combine and melt, stirring for a few minutes.
- Add the cooked noodles to the meat mixture in the skillet and stir until well combined. Lastly, topped with shredded swiss and cheddar. Add the cover to the skillet for a couple minutes to help the cheese melt. Enjoy!
