This garlic butter spread recipe comes together in just a few minutes and tastes great on any bread to get that restaurant style garlic toast right at home! I love pairing this garlic butter with our Italian Bread Recipe and then serving up Million Dollar Spaghetti for a true comfort, kid friendly, meal!

I began making my own garlic spread (and toast) the last year because the ingredient list on the pre made frozen garlic toast in our store was long and seemed to have ingredients that were not necessary. While I still enjoy convenience sometimes, this was an easy swap that also freezes very well.

In a medium to large bowl, combine all ingredients EXCEPT mozzarella. Use a hand mixer to mix all together. Can also use a whisk or rubber spatula but hand mixer incorporates it best.
- To use on garlic bread
Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Slather a heaping tablespoon on each slice of bread. Sprinkle with mozzarella cheese if you’d like it cheesy. Bake until cheese is melted and edges are toasted. (8-10 minutes)
Garlic Spread FAQs
Absolutely. You can make use fresh garlic for an even stronger flavor.
Yes, you can make the garlic butter spread up to 3-5 days in advance and store it in the fridge. It also freezes well in a freezer safe container for up to 3 months.
You can cut butter into small cubes and let it set at room temperature for 15-20 minutes. If you are in a hurry and the butter is cold I have unwrapped and heated in microwave in defrost mode in 30 second increments until it is soft- you have to watch this closely so it doesn’t melt, though!
No I do not recommend doing that. Butter provides a rich flavor and better texture than substitutes like margarine.
You can use Italian Bread (linked it my EASY italian bread recipe), baguettes, French Bread. I have used just normal sandwich bread or even halves of hamburger buns when in a pinch! It isn’t fancy but my kids are young and do not care!
This usually happens if too much butter is used per slice, bread is too soft or if it is wrapped while baking the entire time.
Other Ways to Use Buttery Garlic Spread
- toss it with pasta: melt a spoonful into hot noodles for an easy side dish!
- melt over our dry aged steaks or burgers: add a pat right after cooking.
- use on vegetables: toss with carrots, green beans or potatoes
- cook shrimp in the garlic spread
- Brush on pizza crust
- Add to mashed potatoes
