When it comes to smoking or grilling– most think about brisket or ribs, but the sirloin tip roast most definitely deserves a place in your smoker too! Lean, flavorful and affordable. This cut transforms beautifully with low-and-slow cooking –and it is so easy to do, too! A 3 lb roast is ready in about 2 hours– your guests will think you were working on it all day.

Why I love this sirloin tip roast recipe
- Very simple to make and ready in about 2 hours! No getting up early to smoke all day, or complicated instructions.
- This could also be made in a similar way in the oven too!
- Versatile- the smoked roast can be shaved for homemade roast beef deli meat, bake on sliders, or just enjoy plain!
Ingredients in Sirloin Tip Roast Recipe
- A quality sirloin tip roast– being farmers, we use our 21-day dry-aged sirloin tip roast in this recipe. Being dry-aged for 21 days brings out even more flavor, and creates such a tender roast. I used a 3 lb roast in this recipe. You can use any size- but may need to adjust smoking time.
- Olive Oil: just a couple tablespoons to brush on the outside of the roast before seasoning.
- Seasoning: I used a simple salt, pepper, onion and garlic powder mixture. Feel free to use what you like. This “daily grind” seasoning would work perfectly and could be used in so many everyday recipes. Our Farmers Blend would be excellent and give the outside a little “kick”.
How to make a Smoked Sirloin Tip Roast
- If you’re sirloin tip roast is frozen, be sure it is thawed all the way. Set it out for about a half hour to bring it to room temperature if it was in the fridge.
- Preheat your smoker to 225 F.
- Use a paper towel to pat it dry, then use a brush to brush olive oil all over the roast.
- Mix your seasonings together in a small bowl with a whisk- sprinkle all over the roast and rub in with your hands.
- It is ready to go on the smoker! Add to the smoker and smoke on low until the roast reaches 135 F. (or doneness to your liking). 135 F is perfect juiciness– in my opinion! A 3 lb roast takes approximately 2 hours – but be sure to use a meat thermometer.
- Once roast has reached appropriate temperature, remove from smoker and let “rest” 10-15 minutes. Then, cut against the grain and enjoy!
