This Nescafe Protein Latte requires no espresso machine–just water, Nescafe instant espresso, milk of choice and your favorite protein powder! Make a higher protein, instant espresso latte right in your own home — a delicious latte without the guilt or price tag.
This is protein packed, and healthy- pairs wonderfully with our low carb Jalapeño Popper Egg Muffins in the morning.

Why you will love this protein latte
- it is easy to make and flexible with variations
- you don’t need a fancy espresso machine–these take up counter space and can cost!
- higher protein (10-12g) which is a more filling way to enjoy your coffee–and I can’t even tell that there is protein in it!
Ingredients in Nescafe Protein Latte
- Nescafe Gold Instant Espresso – I have used blonde, original and decaf. I sometimes use half decaf and half another flavor if it’s later in the afternoon and I don’t need the buzz. They also have a intense flavor that I think would be good for you strong coffee lovers.
- Milk – I use cows milk or oat milk for a more sweeter/oat flavor. As a dairy farmers daughter, I do recommend using that REAL milk–BUT I do really enjoy oat “milk” in my lattes too (please tell me- how do you milk an oat?!).
- Protein Powder – I use the salted caramel protein powder from 1up Nutrition. It is my absolute favorite. Other brands and flavors should work just as well. Flavors like vanilla, caramel, mocha, etc would be excellent choices.
- Water – pretty self explanatory and needed to mix with the instant espresso. I use hot tap water.
- Caramel Syrup – optional, but fun. I use Smuckers Sugar Free Caramel Sundae Sryrup and layer it along the inside of the cup before putting in the liquid.
- Optional – additional sweetener if you wish. When I add the caramel syrup- I don’t usually need any additional sweetener but this depends on your taste buds.
How to make an iced caramel protein latte
- Add caramel syrup
If using caramel syrup (I used sugar free sundae syrup) spread about 1 tbsp around the inside of your coffee cup. This is optional but delicious. Then add ice cubes.
- Make Espresso Shots
Run your tap water hot. Mix 1/2 cup of hot water with 2 tsp of Nescafe Gold Instant Espresso. Then pour over cup of ice.
- Add Milk
Add about 2 tbsp of milk to the iced mixture. I use oat milk or cows milk. Can use more milk or less- all depends on how you like your lattes.
- Make protein cold foam
Pour scant 1/4 c of milk into electric milk frother (or cup to use hand frother). Next add 2 tbsp of protein powder. Blend until frothy.
- Assemble
Pour the frothed protein cold foam over the latte. Use your straw to mix it well and enjoy! Once you have a chance to taste it-feel free to add more sweetener, milk, etc.

Variations
- use any milk substitute you wish
- replace salted caramel protein flavor with mocha, vanilla, etc.
- use cold brew instead of instant espresso but still top with the protein cold foam and caramel sauce–very good!
Protein Latte FAQs
Look for the instant espresso Nescafe Gold– you could use their instant coffee but I have not tried it myself.
The recipe is specifically for iced BUT you could make this hot too. Just make sure to warm the milk and instead of using the “cold drink froth” setting on your electric frother – use the warm setting. (Or warm your milk up before frothing if using a hand frother)
Absolutely- IF you use a frother. I use an electric frother, but an average hand frother should also blend it well. I have never noticed chunks of protein or anything like that when using a frother.
Yes. I use cows milk or oat milk, but other alternatives like soy, coconut etc can be used as well.
If using 2 tsp (as instructed) about 140 mg. Different varieties of Nescafe Gold may vary in caffeine amounts but not by much. You may also use decaf Nescafe gold–that works great. I used that a lot when I was pregnant and watching caffeine intake.
Yes- but all brands have different flavors. I recommend 1up Nutrition Salted Caramel for this recipe, however use whatever protein powder you like.
