This homemade bone broth hot cocoa is full of protein, beef collagen and packed with flavor. I have been making this a few times a week with our new farm product, French Creek Beef Broth (no additives just our home raised beef bones cooked with water). Just broth, milk, cocoa and maple syrup create a protein packed, flavorful, hot chocolate!

My inspiration for making bone broth hot chocolate was the viral Ballerina Farms bone broth hot chocolate I had been seeing popping up on my social media. I am sure the broth they make is delicious, but being we just started processing our own farm fresh broth, I wanted to make this myself.
Why you’ll love this drink
- comes together in about 10 minutes
- high in protein, depending on your broth and milk choice it has anywhere from 16-20 g per serving
- bone broth has nourishing health benefits such as collagen, protein and hydration when you are sick!
Ingredients in Beef Broth Hot Cocoa
- Beef Broth – as I mentioned, we just came out with a new beef broth product using our own cattle and processed in a USDA facility. However it is not shelf stable, so we cannot ship it– use your favorite bone broth if not local to us.
- Cocoa Powder – any kind will work fine. I usually get Nestle brand.
- Milk of choice – I use whole milk, but also enjoy a creamy oat milk for its texture and sweetness
- Pure Maple Syrup

Substitutions and Variations
- Use chicken broth instead of beef broth
- add a scoop of your favorite protein powder or collagen powder for an even larger health boost.
- mocha bone broth: add a 1-2 tsp instant espresso or a shot of brewed espresso
- frozen hot chocolate: blend chilled cocoa with ice for a summer version
How to make high protein hot cocoa
- Add the broth, milk, cocoa powder and maple syrup into a small sauce pan.
- Heat over medium heat, whisking until smooth and warmed through.
- Pour into mug and enjoy!
