These frozen bread dough cinnamon rolls taste like they are homemade!
I use Rhode’s bread dough almost always in this recipe and they have turned out great each time. I do not always have time to knead, let rise and knead again (plus with my luck my yeast is usually expired!) so this has been a great hack for my family. NOTE Rhodes does carry their own frozen cinnamon roll dough but that is NOT what I buy. I purchase the bread dough loaves and make them into rolls myself. I like that I can make my own filling, and use my own frosting. I have also used their bread dough to make normal bread, and it turns out great!
How to freeze these quick and easy maple cinnamon rolls
These can be fully baked and frosted, and then plastic wrapped, set in a freezer bag and put in the freezer. Heat them up for a few second in the microwave for breakfast at a later time. They could also be frozen after cut into rolls, and put back in the freezer. Then thaw and let rise and bake at another time.
Make a double batch and give to a friend, new mom or as Christmas gifts
These frozen bread dough cinnamon rolls with maple frosting make a great gift for a new mom, neighbor or wrap them up cute for a Christmas gift. I like to buy cute pans or plates from the dollar store, and wrap these up with a bow for gifts.

Frozen Bread Dough Cinnamon Rolls with Maple Frosting
Equipment
- 1 Rolling Pin
- 1 cutting board
- 1 baking pan any size or shape to bake rolls in
- measuring utensils & pastry brush
- 1 serated knife
- 1 bowl and fork
- 1 medium sized pot for frosting
Ingredients
Cinnamon Rolls
- 2 loaves frozen bread dough, thawed ex. Rhodes bread dough
- 1 stick butter melted
- 1/4 cup white or brown sugar
- 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
Maple Frosting
- 1 stick butter
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1/3 cup milk or cream more or less, depending on desired consistency
- 3 cups powdered sugar
- 1 tsp maple flavoring
Instructions
- Grease an area on counter or table. Set the loaves of thawed bread dough on area and use rolling pin to roll out in a rectangular shape, about 14×9 inch. If doing 2 loaves of bread dough, roll them out separately.
- Use pastry brush to brush a generous layer of butter on the dough, leave a 1/4 inch margin on the far side of the dough. Mix the sugar and ground cinnamon in a bowl with a whisk to form a cinnamon sugar. Sprinkle half the sugar mixture on each of the loaves flattened out.
- Next, start rolling the dough tightly into a log. Once rolled, pinch the end of the dough to keep from falling apart, and lay seam side down. Cut the 'log' of cinnamon roll dough with serrated knife into roughly 1 inch rolls. You will probably need to cut off 1/2 inch of the ends that will not be even or have enough sugar on them.
- Place rolls in a greased pan. If doing 2 loaves, you will need more than 1 pan. (ex. 2, 9×9 square or round pans. I usually double batch this an run out of pans, therefore start putting them in all different sizes!) Leave room in the pan for the rolls rise. Let rise for about an hour, covered with plastic wrap or light warm towel.
- Preheat oven to 350 F. Bake for 15-20 minutes, until rolls turn golden brown.
Maple Frosting
- Heat medium pot on medium heat. Add butter and brown sugar, boil for 2-3 minutes stirring frequently. Remove from heat.
- Add milk or cream, then add maple flavoring. Last, add the powdered sugar slowly stirring well with spoon or whisk. Add more milk or cream if too thick. Immediately drizzle the frosting on the rolls before it begins to harden.
Bon
These are my favorite cinn rolls, especially with this Maple flavor frosting! Very moist and stay softer for a longer period of time. Freeze well!
