Frozen Bread Dough Cinnamon Rolls with Maple Frosting
These frozen bread dough cinnamon rolls take a little less time than homemade from scratch, but taste just as good! The maple frosting is the perfect touch. A loaf of frozen bread dough, cinnamon, sugar, butter and maple frosting ingredients. Make these ahead of time and stick in the freezer for a treat later on.
1/3cupmilk or creammore or less, depending on desired consistency
3cupspowdered sugar
1tspmaple flavoring
Instructions
Grease an area on counter or table. Set the loaves of thawed bread dough on area and use rolling pin to roll out in a rectangular shape, about 14x9 inch. If doing 2 loaves of bread dough, roll them out separately.
Use pastry brush to brush a generous layer of butter on the dough, leave a 1/4 inch margin on the far side of the dough. Mix the sugar and ground cinnamon in a bowl with a whisk to form a cinnamon sugar. Sprinkle half the sugar mixture on each of the loaves flattened out.
Next, start rolling the dough tightly into a log. Once rolled, pinch the end of the dough to keep from falling apart, and lay seam side down. Cut the 'log' of cinnamon roll dough with serrated knife into roughly 1 inch rolls. You will probably need to cut off 1/2 inch of the ends that will not be even or have enough sugar on them.
Place rolls in a greased pan. If doing 2 loaves, you will need more than 1 pan. (ex. 2, 9x9 square or round pans. I usually double batch this an run out of pans, therefore start putting them in all different sizes!) Leave room in the pan for the rolls rise. Let rise for about an hour, covered with plastic wrap or light warm towel.
Preheat oven to 350 F. Bake for 15-20 minutes, until rolls turn golden brown.
Maple Frosting
Heat medium pot on medium heat. Add butter and brown sugar, boil for 2-3 minutes stirring frequently. Remove from heat.
Add milk or cream, then add maple flavoring. Last, add the powdered sugar slowly stirring well with spoon or whisk. Add more milk or cream if too thick. Immediately drizzle the frosting on the rolls before it begins to harden.
Notes
NOTES:Brown sugar works best, but white sugar can be used as the filling in the cinnamon rolls too.FREEZER FRIENDLY: Bake the rolls, frost them, cover with plastic wrap on a plate, disposable pan, etc. and place in a large 2 gallon freezer ziploc bag to store in freezer. I have froze them this way for up to 3 months and they tasted great! Just re-heat in microwave for a comforting breakfast. You could also freeze after rolling up and cutting the dough in a pan, and getting out at a later time to let them rise and then bake.
