This healthy broccoli salad recipe is a great holiday side dish or something to take along in the summer to your next grill out or gathering! It tastes just as great as a regular broccoli salad, but better for you! A Greek yogurt-based dressing with the regular broccoli, sunflower seeds and raisins in the mix. You will be sure to make this over and over again!
Broccoli salad with Greek yogurt dressing is a simple recipe that is ready in less that 30 minutes EXCEPT it tastes the best if you let it set awhile. I was inspired by eat yourself skinny’s broccoli salad recipe and made it my own.
Healthy Broccoli Salad Ingredients
- Broccoli Florets – I like to dice mine up even smaller than what they come at the store.
- Red onion, diced. Again dice this how small you like eating it.
- PRO TIP when dicing an onion–keep a wet rag or paper towel near by to help absorb the potency that makes you cry.
- Raisins
- Sunflower seeds (without shells)
- plain Greek yogurt– can use fat free, full fat, etc.
- sweetener – honey/sugar. I use both in this recipe but feel free to replace with your favorite kind of sweetener.
- Salt & Pepper
- Apple Cider Vinegar – some people think this is a strange ingredient, but it gives just the right amount of zip to the recipe. Kind of like in BBQs- I love adding apple cider vinegar to those, too!
- Dijon mustard, lemon juice – I used the bottled lemon juice.
Are you looking for ingredients that are better-for-you too? I have been occasionally using Azure Standard, that delivers around the US. Check to see if they have a drop site near you! If you are local to me, they go to Caledonia and Lacrosse currently. Great prices on bulk items, too especially if you’re looking for organic. I ordered bulk pears and peaches earlier this year to can- they were great!
Variations & additions to Greek yogurt broccoli salad
- Add bacon bits or crumbled cooked bacon (about 4 pieces). If local, check out our selection of leaner beef bacon. Turkey bacon would work as a leaner option, too.
- Grapes: add about 1/2 cup sliced up grapes to the recipe for added sweetness
- Feta cheese: this might sound strange, but it tastes so good with feta cheese sprinkled on the top.
How to make broccoli salad
- Chop up your veggies to the size you desire. As I mentioned, I like to chop my broccoli up pretty small for myself and my young children to make it easier to eat.
- Whip up the Greek yogurt dressing in a separate bowl.
- Mix all the ingredients together. Add more salt, pepper or honey to taste.
- Let chill for at least 1 hour, then enjoy! It really doesn’t taste as good if you don’t let it sit for at least an hour before enjoying, so don’t skip this step.
Broccoli Salad FAQ
It will be good up to 4-5 days if stored properly in an air tight container in your fridge. I personally like it most after it has set for a day in the fridge and soaked in the great flavor.
