Looking for a on-the-go, nutritious breakfast idea? This protein banana bread is worth a try! If you love the taste of regular banana bread this recipe is for you. It is a healthy-ish banana bread recipe with protein powder included for an extra nutritional punch to help you through your morning or an afternoon snack. The eggs, greek yogurt and protein powder provide approximately 10 grams of protein in each serving; plus toddler approved!
INGREDIENTS
BANANAS- obviously the most important ingredient. The riper, the better for the best taste. If you are like me, you buy a ‘bunch’ of bananas each week and sometimes a couple get a little too ripe before you get a chance to eat them. Throw those ripe bananas in the freezer to save up for recipes such as this. They also taste great straight out of the freezer in smoothies.
All purpose flour- Most protein banana bread recipes are going to tell you to use oat flour, almond flour, etc. to be ‘healthier’ but honestly I don’t like spending a bunch of money on different flours and just don’t have the room in my pantry for all that extra stuff. I used all purpose baking flour, but feel free to substitute with a healthier flour if you desire.
Greek Yogurt- this is packed with protein and good for your gut too! Yogurt is full of probiotics. I LOVE LOVE LOVE Country View Dairy Greek Yogurt. Their plain, whole milk greek yogurt is what I used in this recipe. Ya know how greek yogurt kind of has a weird after taste? Theres’ doesn’t!! It is AMAZING. If you are local to Northeast Iowa you need to try it out. You can shop online right here. However you can use any kind of greek yogurt you like in this recipe.
Eggs- 3 large eggs. Great protein source.
Brown Sugar- Like I mentioned with the flour above, most healthy recipes are going to tell you to use a sugar substitute or a weird, expensive, kind of sugar. I don’t have time for that stuff and I also find it hard to believe fake sugar with zero or very few calories is truly better than you. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. HOWEVER feel free to use half, or all, sugar substitute.
Protein Powder- I used 1up protein powder in a vanilla flavor. I have also used blueberry flavor and caramel flavor in this recipe and they all tasted great. I love their powders, but really any kind protein will work.
Spices+ Extras- This recipe calls for cinnamon, nutmeg, sea salt and vanilla. Don’t forget the baking soda and baking powder too!
Nutritional info of Protein Powder Banana Bread
I entered the recipe into my fitness pal to give you approximate nutritional information. This would make 10 large servings. Per serving: 318 calories, 10 g protein, 45 g carbs and 11 grams fat. Of course, if you use lower fat yogurt, different protein powder, etc this will change the content. This does not include the tablespoon of butter slathered on top of it for flavor (haha!).

Love this nutritious bread..a meal in a slice. Quite dense and moist and filling… I wrap slices individually and freeze and grab for a quick breakfast! Will definitely keep on hand.
