Looking for a Swedish meatball bake that is freezer friendly, too? Look no further! Simple homemade meatballs with an easy homemade gravy sauce. Eat alone; or add mashed potatoes, pasta or rice.

Are Swedish meatballs freezer friendly?
Yes- there are two ways you can freeze this.
uncooked: make the sauce, patty the meatballs and combine them. Skip the actual baking step and store these in a freezer safe casserole dish. When ready to eat- thaw and bake as instructed. You could also bake from frozen, but bake time will need to increase- I would also cover with foil for 30 minutes if baking from frozen.
cooked- these meatballs would be an excellent meal to bake, cool and then freeze in individual containers. Just thaw and reheat for a quick work lunch!
Can you add pasta to the Swedish meatball bake?
I havenโt tried adding pasta into the bake and actually baking it. If doing this- I suggest boiling the noodles until al dente then baking as instructed below.
Do I need to cook the Swedish meatballs before baking?
No! A lot of recipes ask you to cook them over the stove top first. You do not need to do that- unless you want crispy outer of the meatball. Just let them bake in the oven- they come out delicious.
What to pair with Swedish meatballs?
so many things to pair with. My family liked to pair them with mashed potatoes, rice or egg noodles. A side salad or green beans would be great too.

Does the Swedish meatball bake need to be covered while baking?
no, unless baking from frozen. Leave it open and bake for about 30-35 minutes. I like to have the internal temp be at least 180 F of the meatballs.

- 1 lg egg
- 1/4 c milk
- 1/2 c panko bread crumbs or oatmeal, rice krispies
- 1 tbsp minced garlic
- 1/2 tsp pepper
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp all spice
- 1/4 tsp ginger

Gravy
- 1/4 c butter

- 1/3 c heavy cream or milk
- 2 tsp dried Dijon mustard
- salt & pepper to taste
Instructions
- preheat oven to 350 F.
- Mix all of the meatball ingredients together in a bowl. Use your hands to mix the meatball ingredients together well. You can try with a spatula but I think hands work best.
- Spray the casserole dish, then make 2 tbsp size meatballs and put in the pan. Should have about 15 meatballs, but does not have to be exact.
- To make the gravy, melt the butter in a small sauce pan on medium high heat. Then add the flour to form a roux.
- Next, slowly add the beef broth, whisking well together. simmer on medium heat until the gravy is thickened. Add the dried mustard. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Pour the gravy over the un-cooked meatballs in the casserole dish. Bake together, uncovered, for 30-35 minutes or until internal temp reaches 180 F.
- Pair with mashed potatoes, egg noodles or rice. Enjoy!
