Swedish Meatball bake is an excellent comfort meal that also makes a great freezer meal. Simple ground beef meatball smothered in an easy creamy gravy sauce. Baked together in the oven and can be eaten 'as is' or with noodles, mashed potatoes or rice.
Mix all of the meatball ingredients together in a bowl. Use your hands to mix the meatball ingredients together well. You can try with a spatula but I think hands work best.
Spray the casserole dish, then make 2 tbsp size meatballs and put in the pan. Should have about 15 meatballs, but does not have to be exact.
To make the gravy, melt the butter in a small sauce pan on medium high heat. Then add the flour to form a roux.
Next, slowly add the beef broth, whisking well together. simmer on medium heat until the gravy is thickened. Add the dried mustard. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Pour the gravy over the un-cooked meatballs in the casserole dish. Bake together, uncovered, for 30-35 minutes or until internal temp reaches 180 F.
Pair with mashed potatoes, egg noodles or rice. Enjoy!
Notes
Freezer Instructions: complete all steps the same but do NOT bake. Freeze in a microwave safe casserole dish. Thaw and bake per instructions. Can also bake from frozen but will need to add a significant amount of bake time. I would suggest covering with foil for 30 minutes if baking from frozen.Substitutions: I have not tried it, but could likely substitute beef for ground turkey, ground venison or ground chicken.nutrition info is an estimate and does not include noodles.
