These homemade pizza lunchables are a great cold lunch idea for kids. They are inexpensive and taste much better than the pizza lunchables found in the grocery store. Just naan bread, pizza sauce, shredded cheese and protein of choice! This is a budget friendly cold lunch idea – it would cost under $1 per ‘lunchable’.
Ingredients in Pizza Lunchables:
- Naan bites. I got mine from Sam’s Club- it was $5.48 for enough bites to make 12 good-sized lunchables (4 bites each). I love these bites- they taste 10 times better than the cardboard-like crust you get in the other kinds of pre-made pizza lunchables.
- Pizza Sauce- one, 14 oz jar of pizza sauce will do an entire container of these naan bites. You can also do plain tomato sauce and add your own Italian seasoning. Want a good pizza sauce recipe? Try our pizza sauce made with cherry tomatoes recipe– the taste is amazing.
- Cheese – shredded cheese. I used mozzarella, but any kind will work.
- Protein- pepperoni and canadian bacon work well with these cold pizza lunchables. Or, do just cheese like I did here. That would make an excellent lunch or even dinner idea for those of you that celebrate lent in your household and need Friday meatless lent recipes that kids will eat!
How to make pizza lunchables
- Go to the grocery store and buy naan bites, pizza sauce and mozarella cheese. Plus any additional toppings.
- Unpack.
- Let your family assemble them as they like. First the naan bites, then about 1-2 tbsp of pizza sauce spread on top of the bites. Next sprinkle with cheese and toppings.
- No baking. You could, actually bake these if you’d like- 350 F for 5-10 minutes until cheese is melted.
Substitutions and Variations of Naan Bite Mini Pizzas
- Make your own naan bites. I have a great pizza crust recipe that I have cut into quarters for personal pizzas. I would cut it down even further for these ultra mini pizzas OR just cut the personal pizza crust into smaller bites sized pizzas after done baking. The recipe does not say this but- make sure to pierce the crust with a fork before baking!! The recipe is a pioneer woman freezer pizza crust recipe, and yes-you can freeze it.
- Choose different cheese– use cheddar, Monterrey jack, pepper jack, anything you’d like.
- Mix up your proteins– like I had mentioned before- use Canadian bacon, pepperoni, diced chicken.
- Make your own pizza sauce instead of store bought. Our cherry tomato sauce recipe is linked.
Pizza Lunchable FAQs
These lunchables can be made in bulk and be budget friendly. I purchased 1 container of naan bites for about $5.50 (12 servings), 1 package shredded mozzarella -$3 which makes over 12 containers worth (Sam’s Club), and you can find pizza sauce for under $2 which will make 12 lunchables. This brings the cost to under $1 per lunchable. If you add protein it will cost a little more- but not much!
If you prep a lot of lunchables- they would last about 4 days in air tight container in fridge (don’t assemble the pizzas until eating or they will get soggy). You could also freeze the ingredients separately if needed.
Other great creative cold lunch ideas for kids or adults would be- pinwheels, a cold dip such as pickle and dried beef with crackers and fruit, my kids love snackle boxes- beef sticks, crackers, cheese, fruit and veg.
