Wacky cake, or chocolate vinegar cake, is a moist, chocolatey beginner-friendly cake recipe that is perfect for the cholate lover in your life. A light cake that needs just a thin frosting. This crazy cake is egg and dairy free- also called the depression cake.
Mix dry ingredients in a bowl. With fingers, make 3 large holes in the dry ingredients.
Add vanilla in a hole, oil in another hole, and vinegar in the last hole.
Cover with 2 cups of cold water. Mix with beater until well combined.
Grease 9x13 cake pan. Bake at 350 F for 35 minutes or until toothpick comes out of middle clean.
Frosting
Add butter to pan, melt. Then add remaining ingredients. Mix well and stir continuously. Bring to boil for 45 seconds. Frost on the cooled cake.

FREEZES WELL: Bake the cake, frost it and slice it up and pack in the freezer if you don't need an entire cake. Perfect kid recipe- kids love making the indents in the cake, and when you add the vinegar it fizzes a bit because of the baking soda- would be a great time to show them the vinegar + baking soda trick!
